Mother Mary Jackson

Mother Mary L. Jackson
December 23, 1939 (3:00am) - June 18, 2009 (11:33am)

Mother Mary Jackson was Born to the Late Emmanuel and Eddie Mae Canady in Quitman, Georgia she was 4th of 11 children born to Mr. & Mrs. Canady my grandparents. When mother came to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1959 with her husband at that time Mr. Henry Jackson, and her four children Henry Jr., William Henry, Maryann, and Linda Carol she begin during what was called at that particular time "days' work". Later she would give birth to Suelene and Warren. After which she would find a job at a hotel (Howard Johnson 92-west) where she would work for 40 years. Mother would start out as a maid there and in the last 20 years serve as a supervising housekeeper where she oversaw 12 maids hiring, firing, training, caring, and doing it in a spirit of love and concern. Many would come to love this woman because of her unending compassion for people. she would assist in helping with the union in the early sixties that would assist primarily these single women with children in getting more pay, she would work with her children which she employed all of them during the summer months to help them buy clothing and the such for themselves. She taught her children the art of hard work, character, strength and discipline. Mother Mary was always fair with her employees, which meant, rather they were her children or otherwise, everybody received the same treatment on "the job" as she would often put it. Nobody received any special treatment. All would be treated fairly. This was her rule and this is what she lived by. Mother Jackson was one of the sweetest ladies you could ever know, with that she was one of the toughest ladies that you would ever know. She knew how to stand in times of adversity. She knew how to work her family through some of the most difficult situations. She knew how to stand by her children; she also knew how to discipline her children. Mother never held her children up in what she knew to be wrong. Mother loves them and told them the truth. Her example of living before her children was and is a testimony.

Mother Mary had dual church membership. She had been a member of the Freewill Holiness Church (Daytona Beach, Florida) under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Jannie L. Rogers where she served as a cook for the church, and was very much a daughter to Dr. Rogers. Mother Mary came to Rise Above It Family Church, to support and stand with her son Rev. Dr. Warren B. Jackson with the support, of Rev. Dr. Jannie L. Rogers. Mother left Freewill Holiness Church in Good standing and remained in good standing until she left and went home to be with the Lord. Mother Mary's position at Rise Above It Family Church was that of multifaceted, she was first and foremost personal advisor to her son, she was also senior Mother of the church and helped to trained the young women, encouraging them, and providing them with insight into how to live a productive, successful, Christian life as women of God.

This woman of God leaves a legacy of Strength, Determination, Compassion, and Hope to a generation that so desperately needs. Most of all she leaves us Jesus. As Mother would always say, "I know the Lord is going to work it out".
